Turrón is one of the most beautiful Spanish contributions to the world of sweets. Italians and Portuguese also have it. Classic turron is made from honey, sugar, egg whites and toasted almonds and other nuts, in white packages that are stacked on stands at Christmas markets.
The scent of roasted almonds and honey, in soft elastic and hard versions that are barely chewed, are a great Mediterranean guilty pleasure that has found fans all over the world. In modern versions, we understand turron as a much broader concept. Turron with chocolate, dried fruit, spices or fine alcoholic beverages are today much more popular than traditional white turron. And the Spanish family company Delaviuda is convincingly the strongest name when it comes to turron. In Spain, people grow up with Delaviuda turrons, and their chocolate turrons, which come in an incredible range of flavours, have expanded to 70 countries to date.
The prices of these turrons in Deliiicije are so affordable that for a dozen or so kuna you can try a range of flavours and see why Spanish turrons have become popular all over the world.
Still, hot summer days are not an ideal environment for enjoying chocolate. However, turrons, although due to nougat they may seem heavier than usual chocolate, are surprisingly a light option. They are expectedly sweet, but have airy textures and in versions with fruit they become almost refreshing sweets.
In Delaviuda chocolate turrons, chocolate is taken very seriously. They are made according to artisan chocolatier standards, from high-quality cocoa, without additives typical for industrial chocolates. The fillings are expectedly good, finely balanced, with different textures, with a lot of attention paid to details such as the size of the ground nut grains or the arrangement of fruit pieces in chocolate. Turron tablets are divided into sticks that easily break off, melt in the mouth, have a fine smooth texture and a very creamy mouthfeel. If you like chocolate, this is a more cheerful, more fun comfort version that will surprise you with each new flavour.
Delaviuda Turron Three chocolates
Dark and milk chocolate wrap around a center of white chocolate. This soft, rich turron has a gorgeous nougat flavor that could be compared to a bajadera candy in which there are fewer nutty and more intensive milk notes. The attention to ingredient processing and the balance of flavors in the Turron with three chocolates shows why Delaviuda turrons are so long-lasting and popular.
Delaviuda Chocolate sticks with almonds
In these sticks of fine milk chocolate (35%), almonds are ground just a little coarser than paste, so that both the quality of the chocolate and the taste of the nuts come to the fore. Delaviuda sticks with almonds are thin, silky, have a good snap and a clear almond flavour that is occasionally felt under the teeth and contrasts the sweetness of milk chocolate. Classic and elegant.
Delaviuda Cheesecake sticks (white chocolate and raspberry)
The biggest surprise of this tasting. When you open the box you literally smell the freshly baked cheesecake: fresh milky cheese scent, vanilla, with a honey-like aroma of white chocolate and a fancy fruit aroma of raspberries. The flavor follows the smell, a pure cheesecake with lots of fine raspberries and even a little fruit acid on the aftertaste, because there are pieces of lyophilized raspberries in the white chocolate. An incredibly fun, refreshing and light chocolate. You can eat it even at +30.
Delaviuda turron with strawberries and yogurt
Another summer hit. Milk chocolate filled with a rich, thick layer of refreshing, tangy yogurt cream with pieces of fresh strawberries. The combination of strawberries and chocolate is the main advantage of this turron, to which yogurt gives the necessary lightness and makes you eat more than you planned.
Delaviuda Turron from 70 percent chocolate
This dark, almost black turron already suggested by color that it would be completely different from the turrons we had tried so far. In it, the taste of cocoa dominates, with notes of dried plums, tobacco and warm spices. The filling from dark chocolate with almond paste is a story in itself. Rich, full of deep, almost dark chocolate and nutty flavours, with a bitter finish full of dried dark fruit. A serious turron for serious chocolate lovers.
Delaviuda Turron with rum and raisins
Chocolate, rum and raisins are an eternal and safe combination. This means that chocolates with these flavours can be boring. This is not the case with this turron. Its main attraction is the successfully preserved taste of raisins which are not dried out and still have the taste of ripe grapes. They were not shy with rum either. Rum in turron does not only give spicy elements, aromas and a sense of sweetness, but also a certain sharpness, seriousness of taste that greatly deepens the flavours of chocolate.
Monerris&Planelles soft turron with peanuts
Probably the biggest sensation of this testing. The soft classic light turron full of honey and egg whites, with a huge percentage of peanuts (61%) that got an even richer taste by processing into paste, would belong to typical Christmas sweets. But who would wait for winter. The naturally sweet taste of peanuts fantastically balances the sweetness in this turron. The aftertaste is even better, pure peanuts. Don't expect to eat just a piece. When you open it you will probably eat the whole table, an added value of this turron is that due to its softness and composition it can be used as an ingredient for other pastries, for example in the base for ice cream, cake creams, cookies or homemade caramels.
